Hello Conference Attendees, Adventure Seekers, History Buffs, Gamblers and Winos.   J

If you relate to any of the above groups, want to get away for an hour or two, have a car, or public transportation, The IE (Inland Empire) has various attractions within a 30-60 minute jaunt.  Our local mountains and foothills provide a variety of trails to experience the great outdoors. About 20-25 minutes away in Claremont, you can stroll among native plants, ponds and gardens at Rancho San Antonio Botanical Gardens http://www.rsabg.org/  the admission is free, but a donation is appreciated.  Or, if you want a longer hike in the mountains, a lovely wilderness area is located at the end of Mills Avenue, also in Claremont.  Stop by the HB for directions  http://www.claremontwildlands.org/ps.aboutjohnsonspasture.cfm  For you history buffs, a The Mission Inn Museum in Riverside and the San Bernardino County Museum are interesting places to visit and both located about 35 min. from the Convention Center. Mission Inn Info, call (951) 788-9556  http://sbcountymuseum.org for SB county museum.  We also have Indian Casinos close by, (doesn't everybody) with Las Vegas style gambling, bingo and slots. San Manuel in Highland is the closest at 30 minutes drive, and Morongo Resort is about 60 minutes drive on the outskirts of Palm Springs.  Check them out at http://www.sanmanuel.com and http://www.casinomorongo.com
Both have excellent restaurants and live nightly entertainment as well.  Many of you know, before the vast urban sprawl, our area was rich in vineyards, olive trees, and citrus.  That tradition lives on at two local wineries both owned by J. Filippi Vintage Co. at 2803A E. Guasti Road, Guasti, and 12467 Base Line, Rancho Cucamonga both offer wine tasting,  really nice gift shops, and surrounding grounds to enjoy a bit of wine and cheese.
http://www.josephfilippiwinery.com/wines.html both are about 15 min. away by car.  Next week we will be looking at some restaurants and attractions within walking distance of the hotels and CC.
Till Then!
